An income tax officer is one of the feared names in India and even the politicians cannot do anything about them.

Income Tax Officer Eligibility

There are some requirements to become an income tax officer in India. You need to be eligible to sit in the exam and below I have added some eligibility to become an income tax officer.

Educational Qualification

You should hold a bachelor’s degree from any university or college in any stream.

Age Limits

The candidate should have attained the age of 18 Years and must not be above 27 years of age. The upper age limit will be relaxed by three years for OBC candidates and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.

How to Become Income Tax Officer

Step 1: Application form

The aspirant has to procure an application form and fill it using the correct details. You can download this form from the SSC website or get it through the local centers. You need to send this form to the regional office after filling the correct information.

Note: The notification for the exam will be posted in some of the top newspapers or websites in India. Example: Employment news and rozgaar Samachar.

Step 2: Preliminary Exam

In May or June. The applicants should have to pass the preliminary exam to be capable of sitting in the mains.

There may be two subjects in preliminary exams:

  • General awareness, 100 questions and the time will be given to the candidates is 2 hours.
  • Arithmetic Part B, 100 questions and the time will be given to the candidates is 2 hours.

Step 3: Main examination

The candidates who passed the preliminary exams are now qualified for the main examination. The main examination will be of two parts. The first exam should be in the written form and the second part will be your interview or you may call it a personality test.

The subjects that should be entertained in the main examinations are:

  • General studies, 100 questions and the time will be given to the candidates is 3 hours.
  • English, 50 questions and the time will be given to the candidates is 2 hours and 20 minutes.
  • Arithmetic, 100 questions and the time will be given to the candidates is 4 hours.
  • Language, 50 questions and the time will be given to the candidates is 2 hours and 20 minutes.
  • Communication skill and writing, 100 questions and the time will be given to the candidates is 2 hours and 20 minutes.

Step 4: Personality test

The final test would be oral and interview of the selected candidates after passing the main examination. The candidate should be able to pass the personality test to be eligible to become an income tax officer in India.
